Beret hats are such great items in the wardrobe - keeping you warm especially when you pull them down close over your ears, or lift the style and they're brilliant for the in-between days of sun and shade. We thought these HEMANTA hats were fab, and we love the thick cable stitch pattern. The inside of the band around your head is lined with black cotton stretch fabric, so the wool doesn't irritate and it makes it a nice strong and snug fit.
They come in gorgeous earthy colours and are knitted in the Himalayas by small groups of artisans. They are designed and imported by one of the small design-led companies we show - Aura Que is a collaboration between UK designer Laura Queening and the small producer groups she works with in Asia. She looks to use traditional skills and local materials as much as possible, aiming to encourage empowerment through work for the individual producers who make the items. She has a passion for Eastern design and appreciation for artisan craftsmanship, handmade processes and traditional textiles.
Each product is brought to life in collaboration with their producer group in Vietnam, a World Fair Trade Organisation (WFTO) member, that provides secure employment to disadvantaged women and marginalized groups in society.
