Rainbow heart glass necklaces by Martin Cheek
These delightful handmade glass necklaces are by mosaic artist Martin Cheek. They are made from murini which Martin uses as a main component in his astounding mosaics. Glass rods of different colours are fused together to make something a bit like a stick of rock, then sliced and the slices fused to make soft shapes. Two are used together with another fusing in the kiln to make each of these rainbow heart shapes .
There are three different necklaces here, each of course comes out of the kiln in its own shape. When you order we will select a necklace for you from the ones we have from Martin.
Size of each heart is 3.5cm to 4cm across. The chain is a nice bold dark metal, approximately 60cm long. It would be easy to add your own favourite chain if you prefer.
Martin Cheek is a versatile mosaic artist based in Broadstairs, Kent. He founded the technique to incorporate glass fusions into his mosaics. In so doing, he essentially transformed the art and added unique textural interest to his work. The intricately detailed glass fusions, all made by Martin in his workshop, take his mosaics to another dimension, adding varying degrees of reflectivity and energy, something not easily obtained using traditional mosaic materials.
