Recycled fabric 'Pulcinella' gold and black brooch by Jan Cooper
This brooch is a small work of art, with it's beautifully creative design and fabrication. It is one of a 'Pulcinella' series made with a likeness to the characters from commedia dell' arte. Pulped paper and glue make the shape, which is finely painted for the face by Jan and coated with resin to give a porcelain-like look. Upcycled and recycled fabric and decorations make up the overall piece, and there's a touch of Jan's glitter around the edges, along with her favourite velvet backing.
The brooch is 12cm tall.
Jan Cooper studied Graphics at Canterbury Art College, then went onto creating handmade 3D greetings cards. This inspired her to move onto making jewellery, which she does with various textiles. She loves to use gold, velvet and mixing fabrics with textured and rigid materials. Jan is an artist spending her life between Brighton and Sandwich, Kent.
